KEY WEST COMPOUND

The project encompasses the massive remodeling of two existing homes in the historic district of Key West, Florida.  By a careful massing of the street-facing house, the project respects the historic nature of the neighborhood.  Poured-in-place concrete walls help to resist extreme hurricane conditions and buffer noise from the busy thoroughfare; the distinct texture of the board formed concrete instills a nuanced contemporary character.   A large second story louvered screen distinguishes the street elevation while also providing privacy and solar protection to the large window behind.  The project also includes a pool and landscaped grounds connecting the two structures.
