BOARDMAN RIVER

This three bedroom residence along the Boardman River in northern Michigan was envisioned to serve as a serene fishing retreat. The local vernacular architecture is suggested in the clean cross gable roofs.  Traditional local materials including blue stone, wood cladding, and metal roofing are also evocative of the region but are detailed with a modern eye. The substructure of the house, including all exterior walls and the foundation is made from prefabricated insulated concrete forms, selected both for their energy efficiency and ease of onsite assembly. Trusses, which are a hybrid of traditional timber and refined steel components, first appear in the double height screened porch and continue inside.  Weathered gray Wyoming snow fencing material appears in the construction of the interior stairway.
