Searl Lamaster Howe is proud to announce our founding Principal Linda Searl has received the honor of the 2024 AIA Chicago Lifetime Achievement Award.
Take a look at the legacy Linda has created …
Starting from the beginning of her career, Linda received her Bachelor of Architecture from University of Florida and went on to receive a Masters of Arts in Architecture as well.
Her collegiate experience did not end after receiving her diploma. Linda taught as an associate professor at UNC Charlotte from 1973-1976 and Florida A&M University from 1976-1980. She was engaged in developing and inventing the curricula and establishing their architectural library. After her time as a professor Linda engaged in many visiting professor positions and academic lectures at numerous universities.
Outside of the academic world Linda has also dedicated much of her time towards mentoring. She has listened, advised and advocated for the younger generations her entire career. Since its inception in 2009 Linda has played a part in the AIA Chicago’s Bridge Mentorship program.
Linda started Searl & Associates in 1990, always fostering an environment where employees can advance in their career. One reflection of her commitment to team building is the successful transition of the firm from Searl and Associates to Searl Lamaster Howe. Both Pam Lamaster-Millett and Greg Howe started with Linda not long after they entered the workforce and are currently Principals.
Her engagement with the architectural community has been a priority throughout her career. Highlights include her tenures as AIA Chicago President, National AIA Vice President and founding participant in AIA Chicago’s Bridge Program. The architectural community has shown much appreciation towards Linda in return through many professional honors and awards, both personal and projects, as well as publications throughout her career.
The firm’s work has always been distinguished by its diversity resulting directly from prioritizing the unique voices, constraints and aspirations of each project - both from the client perspective and that of each member of the team.
